Ending the embarrasment and discomfort of hemorrhoids is easy with Dr. Bloy’s method of hemorrhoidectomy!

WHAT IS A HEMORRHOIDECTOMY?

A hemorrhoidectomy is a procedure that allows your practitioner to permanently remove a hemorrhoid. Many patients ignore their hemorrhoids for years for fear of complicated surgery and painful recovery. Dr. Bloy, with decades of experience, has perfected a method of removal that eliminates the hemorrhoid – a brief, in office, painless and safe procedure in the comfort of our office.

WHAT TYPES OF HEMORRHOIDS CAN WE TREAT?

At Contemporary Health Center, Dr. Bloy can permanently remove external hemorrhoids in the comfort of our office. Unfortunately, internal hemorrhoids are not able to be treated without more invasive surgery.

External hemorrhoids are ones that are somewhat visible from the outside of the anus and can be touched. Internal hemorrhoids are ones that cannot be seen from outside of the anus and cannot be touched.

External hemorrhoids often cause embarrassment and one or all of the symptoms listed below:

  • Feel discomfort, itching, or pain around your anus
  • See blood on the toilet paper or in the toilet bowl when you go to the bathroom
  • Get moist, pink bumps around the edge of or bulging out from your anus (These may look purple or blue, too.)

BENEFITS OF OUR HEMORRHOIDECTOMY

  • Painless procedure
  • In office convenience
  • Local numbing
  • No risky general anesthesia
  • Simple safe procedure
  • Easy recovery
  • Covered by most insurance providers

WHERE IS HEMORRHOIDECTOMY PERFORMED?

We perform hemorrhoidectomies in our office surgical room. This allows you to avoid the excessive costs and infection risks associated with hospitals.

HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?

  • Almost always, the hemorrhoids that are removed do not return or regrow, ever. Dr. Bloy removes the entire hemorrhoid leaving the area looking as if it never was there.
  • Patients more prone the developing hemorrhoids may develop new hemorrhoids at any time, but not as a result of the hemorrhoidectomy and not in a rebound effect. New hemorrhoids will require further treatment, if removal is desired. Patients prone to hemorrhoids should ask Dr. Bloy for tips on reducing the conditions that commonly lead to hemorrhoid development.

ABOUT MY PROCEDURE APPOINTMENT

You will be able to eat and drink normally prior to the test and after the test. Generally, you are advised to take all your normal medications prior to surgery, but do check this with your doctor.

We only use local numbing medication, so you may drive yourself to and from your procedure and return to daily life immediately.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE PROCEDURE?

The procedure is not painful. At CHC, hemorrhoidectomy is painless!

On average, the procedure will take 15-20 minutes to complete.

The entire office visit, including numbing, will take about 1 hour.

You may be asked to change into a hospital gown for the procedure, and the lower part of your body will then be covered with a sterile drape.

The area around your hemorrhoid will be cleaned and numbed for 20-30 minutes. Hemorrhoidectomy is painless! The doctor will then gently remove the hemorrhoid with a special electronic device. You will be given aftercare instructions and can return to your daily activities.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER MY PROCEDURE?

After your hemorrhoid removal, you may have some temporary mild burning feeling or see spots of blood. Ice for 24 hours. Then, a warm bath or a warm damp washcloth may relieve any burning feeling. This mild discomfort should not last longer than 3-4 days. Tell your doctor if bleeding or pain is severe or if problems last longer than a couple of days.

If you have signs of an infection, redness or fever, call the office.

Despite some tenderness, you are able to return to work or any activities immediately after your hemorrhoidectomy.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

This depends on the number and size of hemorrhoids being treated. One hemorrhoid or 2 small hemorrhoids can be removed with each treatment. If there are multiple hemorrhoids, the doctor will let you know how many separate treatments will be necessary.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS?

Fortunately, complications from hemorrhoidectomy are avoided at Contemporary Health Center and risks are mitigated by our treatment protocol. Though all procedures involve some risk, we are proud to have never encountered complications with hemorrhoidectomy during our 30+ years in practice.

WILL HEMORRHOIDECTOMY HURT?

No. Numbing solution numbs the treatment area fully. Hemorrhoidectomy with Dr. Bloy is painless and comfortable.

WHAT MEDICATIONS OR ANESTHESIA ARE USED?

Only local numbing solution is necessary to ensure a painless and comfortable procedure.
