What to Expect During the Hemorrhoid Removal Procedure?
The hemorrhoidectomy itself typically takes 15-20 minutes, while the entire office visit, including numbing and cleaning the treatment area, takes about one hour. This brief, in-office procedure is designed to be painless.
You may be asked to change into a hospital gown for the procedure, and the lower part of your body will then be covered with a sterile drape.
The area around your hemorrhoid will be cleaned and numbed for approximately 20-30 minutes. Your provider will then gently remove the hemorrhoid using a special electronic device. After the procedure, you will receive aftercare instructions and can return to your daily activities.

How Do I Prepare for Treatment?
Preparation prior to the treatment is minimal. You will be able to eat and drink normally before and after the procedure. Typically, patients are advised to take all their normal medications prior to surgery, but you should consult with your doctor ahead of time.
Because we only use local numbing medication, you may drive yourself to and from your procedure and return to your daily activities immediately afterward.
How Many Hemorrhoid Removal Treatments Will I Need?
The number of hemorrhoid removal treatments you’ll require depends on the number and size of the hemorrhoids being treated. One or two small hemorrhoids can be removed during each treatment. If there are multiple hemorrhoids, the doctor will determine how many separate treatments are needed.

We only use a local numbing solution for this treatment. No other medication or general anesthesia is required. The treatment area is fully numbed to help ensure a comfortable, painless procedure.
How Long Do the Results Last?
A hemorrhoidectomy permanently removed the treated hemorrhoid. However, this removal does not prevent new hemorrhoids from developing in the future.
What Is the Recovery Time for a Hemorrhoidectomy?
Hemorrhoid removal recovery is generally quick, and you can return to work or your normal activities immediately after the procedure. However, there may be some possible tenderness.
You may experience a temporary mild burning sensation or see small spots of blood after the procedure. Applying ice over the next 24 hours may help reduce these effects. After that, a warm bath or a warm, damp washcloth may also help relieve any burning or discomfort. Mild discomfort typically doesn’t last any longer than 3-4 days.
Contact your doctor if you experience severe bleeding or pain, if symptoms persist longer than a few days or if you develop signs of infection, such as redness or a fever.
